It was founded in 1989 as the sports official governing body, with the mission to promote the sport’s global appeal. The primary distances for ITU racing are the sprint distance, and the standard or olympic distance. Infact, the ITU were behind getting triathlon included in the Olympic Games, hence the Olympic Distance. This race is over a 1.5km swim, 40km draft legal bike, and a 10km run. The spectacle of ITU racing is the World Triathlon Series, or WTS for short. As the name suggests, it’s a series of events dotted around the globe throughout the year, and attracting the best ITU athletes. In 2018, the series will visit 8 locations and we bring you low down on each course along with who the favourites will be.
